UK Maritime Heritage Forum 2025

Event date: 20-21 October

Location: Edinburgh

Venue: National Museums Scotland

Organisers UKMHF

This year the UK Maritime Heritage Forum will meet in Scotland’s capital. Beginning with pre-conference drinks on Sunday 19 October 2025, the conference will be held at National Museums Scotland, Edinburgh, on Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 October. What better way to celebrate Trafalgar Day than at the home of Scotland's Nelson Monument in Edinburgh.

Edinburgh, with its ports of Leith, Newhaven and Granton, is home to the Royal Yacht Britannia and has distinct maritime histories of shipbuilding, ship owning, whaling and fishing. The forum will be hosted by National Museums Scotland which cares for over 12 million objects and specimens in four museums and the National Museums Collection Centre. The collections range from Viking hoards to supersonic aircraft and maritime history is represented across Scottish history and archaeology, science and technology, global arts culture and design and natural sciences.

As ever, the forum is an opportunity to come together and reflect on those aspects of maritime heritage practice that connect us all whether we care for static collections or operating vessels, whether large museum or small volunteer team.

Further details on how to register will be shared with UKMHF members nearer the time.
